His first electronic works were created in the San Francisco State University electronic music lab in the late 1960's when the use of electronics in music was new and experimental. Pop/rock musicians were yet to discover and implimented electronics into their performances. "Serious music" composers were experimenting with electronic sounds. The arrival of the Buchla and Moog synthesizers on the market opened the door for more sophisticated control and use of the sounds. In the 1970's Stan went to North Texas State University where Merrill Ellis was teaching in the lab that he had put together and was managing.
